What if there is no Beginning

I saw this article the other day about the black hole and began to wonder: What if there is no beginning? Imagine that. No beginning, of course, means no end. But, even more startling is the implication that whatever is, is. That indeed, we don’t step in the same river more than once. Imagine that This Moment is actually That Moment. I tremble when the notion of no beginning fleets, almost unperceived, through my consciousness.

Speaking of consciousness, what is it? If I wrote, “what is it exactly?”, would you be able to tell me? I doubt that consciousness is exact or precise.
